A Moment in the Mirror.....

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
(James 1:22-24)

“In football they have a huddle; the purpose of the huddle is to give you thirty seconds to call the play, which is why you are given a huddle. At a professional football game there may be sixty thousand plus people watching you huddle, they don’t mind you taking thirty seconds to call the play. They understand that you have to get organized, you have to know where you are going to go, the receivers need to know where they are going, the quarterback needs to know where he is going, and the backs need to know where they are going. A huddle is essential to playing the game.
But let me inform you if you do not already know, sixty thousand people do not pay $50 a ticket to watch you huddle. You see, people don’t come to football games to watch the huddle. They want to see if their team can overcome the opposition daring them to snap the ball and move down the field to score. What they want to know is does your practice work? Now what Christians often do is get high on their huddles. We gather together on Sunday morning, Sunday nights and Wednesday nights and we go nuts over the huddle! We say, “Boy did we have a great huddle!! My quarterback can call plays better than yourquarterback. We go off on the huddle.
But what people don’t seem to understand is that the huddle (church) is so we can play the game. The effectiveness of the church cannot be measured by how well we do on Sunday morning. … The test of the church is what it does in the marketplace. What we need today are churches representative of Jesus Christ not only when gathered but when dispersed.”

FATHER OF THE YEAR GOES TO...

MARK WHITSON! Congratulations on being
selected as Father of the Year on
Sunday, June 20, 2010!
Rumor has it that Mark was “one of the best kids in
the FCC nursery” some years ago.
As it turns out he is now a loving husband and
father and a devout Christian man.
God bless you and yours now and always!

With Many Thanks!

I would like to thank all of the people who
helped in restoring the very run down Youth
Parsonage to a livable condition. It took a
Herculean effort on the part of many to restore
it to an acceptable condition. Those who gave
of their time were: George and Steve Coley;
David Eunson; Andy and Kim Frazier; Patti and
Lee Hemphill; Seth and Katie Jones; Lorraine
Lane; James Matson; B. J. and Jody Moore;
Gail Thompson; Jerry and Gay Whitt.
A special thanks to Jerry whose carpentry
and plumbing skills were invaluable, with out
him we wouldn't have finished on time; to
Lorraine Lane for her ability to restore closets
and for donating light fixtures for the living room
and foyer; and to Lori Alexander for her
thoughtfulness in providing refreshments for
some very tired people! The joint effort made it
possible to complete the job just in time for the
Frazier’s to move in! Thank you thank you!!
Respectfully,
Shelton Thompson, Property Chairman
