Weekly Memory Verse
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 1 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)

From the minister...

God commissioned him to be a missionary to the Assyrian capital of Nineveh.  Jonah, probably for many reasons, was not very receptive to God's direction and tried to run away from his responsibilities.  All of us are very much aware of the consequences that accompanied that rebellion on the part of Jonah.
After he was delivered from his experience in the belly of the fish, God called him again as a missionary to Nineveh, and this time Jonah answered the call.  The end result was a great revival as the entire city repented in sackcloth and ashes.  It also allowed us to see Jonah at his most selfish state.  A missionary who grieved over the fact that the people to whom he preached repented.
It would seem obvious that when God calls us to do something, we ought to do it.  It should be equally clear that if we refuse we could get into a lot of trouble.  And we should learn that when we do something for God we have to be willing to accept the results, leaving God to assess how he will handle the situation.
Just as Jonah, so many years ago, was given a commission by God to tell the message of repentance and the promise of forgiveness, we have been given a challenge to bear a message to the rest of the world. Paul describes it like this in his letter to the Romans: 14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? (Romans 10.14-15a; NLT)

Grace and Peace,
Tim

MISSIONS SUNDAY
Coming Sunday, August 29, 2010

This year the Missions Committee chose:

CARE AND SHARE
and
EAST TENNEESSEE CHILDRENS HOME

All tithes taken up on 8/29, unless specifically designated, will go to these two missions. It’s always hard to decide which mission (s) to select to receive the special funds as all mission efforts are worthy.
Please prayerfully decide what you’re able to give and know that it will be a blessing to both organizations.
