And the year is 2010
New year, new beginnings, new changes, new birth, death old as life. The ebb and flow of living.
Two weeks before Christmas started a domino event of losing loved ones, starting with two of my dear friends each losing a parent days before the holidays. It didn't stop there, our church family has experienced loss in the last few weeks. The most recent being on Monday the 4th. The saying it “comes in three’s” has certainly held true for me and possibly for you and it’s changing me.
First Christian Church is also witnessing change, another saying, “the only thing
constant is change” springs to mind. We’ve seen it in our worship style and in the new sound and video equipment that enhances our time of worship. It seems there has been a general shift in worship style everywhere. Life constantly moves forward whether we’re ready for or like it or not. I can’t be the only one who'd like to stop the proverbial clock now and again!
But wait! There is a constant, there is something we can hold onto that will never change, God and His age old promises which we can cling to for dear life!! Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hallelujah!
We may change, circumstances may change but that is the course the first sin set humanity on. During this time of making (and breaking) New Years resolutions and new calendar pages to fill let us like Paul, “live up to what we’ve already attained” and grow from here!
Prior to that statement Paul writes in Philippians 3:13-14, “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
When we stumble or even fall, get up, brush yourself off, don't look back and continue the race! I pray that this year will be filled with blessings and that the peace which transcends all understanding will rest on each of you……..
