What? No Broadcaster?

II Peter 1:12-13a
So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. I think it is right to refresh your memory...

Sigh......I have no good exuse for not posting the Broadcaster this week, the truth is I totally forgot to do it. Period.
I recall my mother getting so angry with me at times because my exuse was, "I forgot!" I mean, how can you help it? How do you stop forgetting things?
I post notes, I leave things laying so I practically trip over them!

I cant tie a string around my own finger because I lack that particular grace.

Yet another reason to "firmly establish" yourself in the Word. Read it so often that you remember it, keep it always at the forfront of your mind!

So what do YOU do to remember? I invite your comments as this seems to be a serious issue...and not just for the "older" set either! I just keep thinking, if it's this bad now what will happen to me in ten years time? Thank goodness for GPS! Now if I can just remember where I put the darn thing!!!!!!! :)

God Bless you readers, I will post high lights of last weeks B/C soon.....or not?

Weekly Memory Verse
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 1 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)

From the minister...

God commissioned him to be a missionary to the Assyrian capital of Nineveh.  Jonah, probably for many reasons, was not very receptive to God's direction and tried to run away from his responsibilities.  All of us are very much aware of the consequences that accompanied that rebellion on the part of Jonah.
After he was delivered from his experience in the belly of the fish, God called him again as a missionary to Nineveh, and this time Jonah answered the call.  The end result was a great revival as the entire city repented in sackcloth and ashes.  It also allowed us to see Jonah at his most selfish state.  A missionary who grieved over the fact that the people to whom he preached repented.
It would seem obvious that when God calls us to do something, we ought to do it.  It should be equally clear that if we refuse we could get into a lot of trouble.  And we should learn that when we do something for God we have to be willing to accept the results, leaving God to assess how he will handle the situation.
Just as Jonah, so many years ago, was given a commission by God to tell the message of repentance and the promise of forgiveness, we have been given a challenge to bear a message to the rest of the world. Paul describes it like this in his letter to the Romans: 14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? (Romans 10.14-15a; NLT)

Grace and Peace,
Tim

Thinking of the Stamper family...

I'm pretty sure I'll never forget the phone call from Sandi Stamper a year ago today, August 12, 2009. It's as clear to me now as it was then, my disbelief as real. She told me words no mother wants to hear.

Andrea was in the hospital herself, she'd just had surgery that very day and I thought that is why Sandi was calling. But the words coming out of her mouth weren't about Andrea, but about Aaron. I couldn't even understand what she was saying at first...but slowly the words sank in. Aaron has Leukemia...
No one knew anything...for days shock, chaos and fear reigned.

I left immediately to go and sit with Andrea until her aunt could get there so Sandi could join Tim and Aaron in Johnson City. Andrea's main goal was to leave and go to her family, it was surreal. It still is. Aaron passed away on Friday, June 4, 2010.

Looking back it feels like five years have passed, then on the other hand it's like it was just yesterday. So much heartache, so much suffering.
In talking with Tim today I realize over and over again how inadequate I am in helping this family deal with a grief I just cant grasp, prayer is all I have to offer and I do always and I do now...

Father, today especially, I lift Tim, Sandi and Andrea up on the wings of prayer, this date is etched forever on their hearts as is June the 4th. Only you O Lord can help carry them through this next year of firsts, only You can help them deal with the pain of loss. I don't begin to understand it Lord, only You can see the whole plan. Be with them. In Jesus name...

Weekly Memory Verse
Jesus answered, “it is written: “Man does
not live on bread alone, but on every word
that comes from the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4

From the Minister...

If someone had been asked in 1968 which nation would dominate the world in watch making during the1990s and into the twenty-first century the answer would have been uniform: Switzerland. Why? BecauseSwitzerland had dominated the world of watch making for the previous sixty years. The Swiss made the best watches in the world and were committed to constant refinement of their expertise. It was the Swiss who came forward with the minute hand and the second hand. They led the world in discovering better ways to manufacture the gears, hearings, and mainsprings of watches. They
even led the way in waterproofing techniques and self-winding models. By 1968, the Swiss made 65 percent of all watches sold in the world and laid claim to as much as 90 percent of the profits.By 1980, however, they had laid off thousands of watchmakers and controlled less than 10 percent of the world market. Their profit domination dropped to less than 20 percent. Between 1979 and 1981,fifty thousand of the sixty-two thousand Swiss watchmakers lost their jobs. Why? The Swiss had refused
to consider a new development—the—the Quartz movement—ironically, invented by a Swiss. Because it had no main-spring or knob, it was rejected. It was too much of a paradigm shift for them to embrace.Seiko, on the other hand, accepted it and, along with a few other companies, became the leader in the watch industry. The lesson of the Swiss watchmakers is profound. A past that was so secure, so profitable, so
dominant was destroyed by an unwillingness to consider the future. It was more than not being able to make predictions—it was an inability to re-think how they did business. (James Enery White, Rethinking The Church, Baker Books, 1998, p. 20)
Past success blinds us to the importance of seeing the implications of a changing world and past accomplishments are no guarantee of future success.
Grace and Peace,
Tim

***Youth News***

The school year is officially back in gear, and with it will be many new activities competing for the time of your family especially your children. Kim and I are experiencing this now with Hannah and Noah both starting their first year of preschool and participating in activities like soccer and dance. Our schedules will soon be filled up and overflowing with more than we can possibly do. The challenge for all parents is, "How do we choose what is the best use of our time as a family?"
Psalm 119 is a fascinating passage of Scripture that uses the 24 letters of Hebrew alphabet to start each stanza. It is the largest chapter in the largest book of the Bible, right near the center or heart of God's Word. Do you know what it is about? It is a prayer of one who delights in and lives by God's Word. The second letter "Beth" begins in verse 9 and reads, "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word." The last verse of the same stanza for the letter "Beth" says, "I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word."
Have you scheduled time for you and your family to dwell in God's Word? What priority does God have among your schedule and the schedules of your kids? Is He first, or does he get whatever is left over? At FCC we hope that our times to meet for Sunday School, Family Gathering, or our local outings will be more than just a thing to fill your schedule, but something that allows you and your family to make God a priority in your life. Those things we do at the church are just the beginning of making Him a priority in your home.

In Christ,
Andy Frazier

It’s a new look!!

In case some of you haven't noticed
there are some subtle changes taking
place! In the next couple of weeks you
will notice some class room’s being
moved around, Andy Frazier’s office will
now be across the hall from the main
office in the “old” choir room.
If you’d like to see how it will eventually
be laid out check out the plans in the
foyer!

Weekly Memory Verse
Thy word is lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105, NIV

A NOTE FROM THE MINISTER...

You might be interested to know that: “Only 41% of Americans attend church services on a typical weekend. Each new generation becomes increasingly unchurched. Slightly over one half (51%) of the builder generation (born before 1946) attends church in a typical weekend. But only 41% of the boomers (born 1946-1964) and 34% of the busters (born 1965-1976) attend church on the weekend. The younger generation, the bridgers (born 1977-1994), indicates that only 30% attend church. (Surprising Insights from the Unchurched p. 33).
A German soldier was wounded. He was ordered to go to the military hospital for treatment. When he arrived at the large and imposing building, he saw two doors, one marked, "For the slightly wounded," and the other, "For the seriously wounded."
He entered through the first door and found himself going down a long hall. At the end of it were two more doors, one marked, "For officer" and the other, "For non-officers." He entered through the latter and found himself going down another long hall. At the end of it were two more doors, one marked, "For party members" and the other, "For non-party members."
He took the second door, and when he opened it he found himself out on the street. When the soldier returned home, his mother asked him, "How did you get along at the hospital?" "Well, Mother," he replied, "to tell the truth, the people there didn’t do anything for me, but you ought to see the tremendous organization they have!” The soldier’s comment describes many churches in our day: really organized, but accomplishing little. What ministries are we propagating within our community? In the way of ministry what are we accomplishing? What are we doing to build relationships? The unchurched are concerned with what we are doing in the name of Jesus.

Grace and Peace,
Tim
